3) Drop vs No-Drop Explained

Understanding Drop vs No-Drop Rides

No-Drop Ride

    • No rider is intentionally left behind
    • Regroups happen regularly
    • Pace stays within the posted range
    • Best for newer riders or social riding

Drop Ride

    • Riders are expected to maintain the posted pace
    • No obligation to regroup
    • Riders may be dropped if pace cannot be maintained
    • Best for experienced, performance-focused cyclists

Dropping riders on designated no-drop rides is not acceptable.

4) FAQ: What Pace Should I Choose?

How do I know which pace is right for me?

Choose the pace you can comfortably hold for the entire ride, not your fastest short effort.

What if I’m between two pace groups?

Start with the slower option. You can always move up on future rides.

I ride fast solo — does that mean I belong in a faster group?

Not always. Group riding requires additional skills such as drafting, pace control, and communication. Choose the group that matches both your fitness and experience.

Will I be judged for riding slower?

Absolutely not. TCCA values riders of all levels, and every pace group is an important part of the club.

Can I switch groups later?

Yes! Many riders progress naturally over time. Our ride structure is designed to support that growth.

Who can help me decide?

Ride leaders are happy to help guide you to the ride that best fits your goals and experience.
